Since 2005, Dr. Robert Martindale has been a tenured faculty member at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon, USA where he served as Chief of the Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery until 2019. At the University Dr. Martindale is currently a Professor of Surgery and he also serves as the Medical Director for Hospital Nutrition Services. His primary focus throughout his professional career has been on medical, surgical and nutrition education. The areas in which he concentrates is caring for medical and surgical patients with complex nutrition issues in the hospital and intensive care unit. He has won numerous teaching awards and continues to mentor young physicians and investigators. He is the author of over 300 publications, including peer reviewed manuscripts, review articles, book chapters, several medical educational videos, as well as being the co-editor of a textbook dealing with surgical and critical care nutrition. His research interests include perioperative methods for optimizing surgical outcomes, abdominal wall reconstruction, surgical metabolism, management of enterocutaneous and enteroatomospheric fistulae, and nutritional modulation of the immunity.
