AHS21 Hands-On Cadaver Lab
An in-person meeting means the return of our hands-on lab! Join us for the AHS21 Hands-On Cadaver Lab on September 26 – following the annual meeting. Dr. Conrad Ballecer and Dr. Vedra Augenstein, the Cadaver Lab Chairs, are excited to bring a hands on lab to do many of you who have been asking for it! Almost two years from the last live meeting, we have an opportunity to give participants a chance to learn all they want to know about hernia, right from the experts!
Experts in the field will demonstrate and then assist you in completing the procedure on a cadaver. We plan to teach the techniques you want to learn and do much more! The program is unique as it pairs you with a mentor before and after the program. The live program will be hosted at a local Austin skills lab minutes from the JW Marriott, the host hotel of the AHS annual meeting. Due to support from our corporate partners, participants of the lab will be able to use the latest technology and products in hernia repair.
The lab will feature a learner-focused curriculum and therefore requires an application for participation. As part of the application, potential participants will be asked to identify which techniques they would like to focus on during the lab. Participants for the lab will be chosen by the lab committee and then paired up with a subject matter expert for a shoulder-to-shoulder hands-on training session. Approaches offered include, but are not limited to, robotic inguinal/TAPP, TAPP ventral, robot eTEP, robotar, robotic foregut. Open/lap stations include every type of hernia approach offered including chronic groin pain management and non-mesh repairs.
If you are interested in participating in the AHS21 Lab, please complete the application below. Applicants will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. The lab is limited to 14 participants (two surgeons per cadaver per station), so please submit your application early!
Participant fees for the lab are $1,000 for AHS members and $1,500 for non-AHS members. Participants will be contacted after their application has been processed and will be invoiced if accepted. Please note that participants for the AHS21 Lab must also be registered for the AHS 2021 Annual Meeting.
