Garth R. Jacobsen, MD, FACS is Professor of Clinical Surgery, Program Director of General Surgery residency program, Director of Clinical operations at the Center for the Future of Surgery, and Director of the UCSD comprehensive hernia center at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Jacobsen graduated from the University of Washington in 2000. He completed his internship, & residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center where he trained in General Surgery in 2007 and completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the University of California, San Diego in 2008. He is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, American Hernia Society, and the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. His bibliography includes over 70 peer-reviewed manuscripts, review articles, and book chapters. Much of his interest continues to focus on outcomes-based research in minimally invasive surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction, as well as the advancement of surgical technique, and he has participated as a speaker in multiple national and international meetings pertaining to foregut, robotics, and complex abdominal wall surgery.
